Over the past 15 years, women entrepreneurs have been making huge strides in the business world. According to the latest data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, the number of female-owned businesses increased by 10 percent globally in 2016. In the U.S alone, 1,821 women opened new businesses each day between 2017 and 2018—a growing shift marking a mighty leap forward for female entrepreneurs today.
While progress still needs to be made towards gender equality, women entrepreneurs across the planet are proving time and time again that they have what it takes to succeed.
In recognition of International Women’s Day, we thought it would be fitting to celebrate the accomplishments of these fantastic, trailblazing female entrepreneurs.
Can’t get enough of camping, backpacking, or hiking? Whether you’re a nature newbie or a seasoned outdoor enthusiast, you know how frustrating it can be when all the good campsites are booked up.
Land sharing possibilities
Connecting campers and land, Hipcamp is changing the face of camping in the U.S. Land sharing is opening all kinds of campsite possibilities, allowing people to fully immerse themselves in breath-taking ecosystems and natural habitat like never before.
Just like Airbnb, private landowners can list their property for rent on Hipcamp. Campers can browse the online platform and look up a wide variety of available rental options, from beaches and ranches to vineyards and nature preserves.
How it all began
Just like countless other campers out there, Ravasio was frustrated with the lack of good campsites available. So, she decided to do something about it by working on an online solution to tap into the private land rental market. After taking a 10-week coding class, Ravasio started building the website in 2013.
Today, Hipcamp has listings for over 300,000 private campsites across the country, with thousands of hosts and millions of campers using the site each year.
Does your employer offer workplace flexibility? In a world where the 9-to-5 workday no longer makes any sense, forward-thinking employers are dropping the rigid and unyielding workspace model in favour of a more flexible and collaborative working environment—and that’s good news for women everywhere in today’s modern workspace.
Workplace flexibility that empowers women
Being the primary caregiver, women often struggle with major responsibilities at home and at work, leading to major female talent leaving the workforce.
After only two phone calls (and never even having met face-to-face) Auerbach and Dean joined forces to create Werk.
Werk offers a job board platform aimed at companies wanting to attract and retain highly qualified women by allowing them to arrange flexible working conditions that meet their lifestyles.
Auerbach and Dean’s vision doesn’t just end with greater workplace flexibility options for women. Employers looking to post positions on the job board must meet a promotions requirement, meaning women have access to upward career movement.
Did you know that 70% of the emerging workforce today graduates with student loan debt?
Student loan debt has reached epidemic proportions in the United States—$1.47 trillion and counting. That whopping figure is exactly what Lauren Taylor had in mind when she launched FutureFuel.io in 2016.
Fight student loan debt
An MIT grad who was previously employed at Google, CEO and founder, Laurel Taylor’s vision helps businesses offer student debt repayment as an employee benefit, enabling students and growing professionals to get rid of their debt and their stress—a win-win situation for both employers and employees.
The burden of student loan debt doesn’t only impact young workers, but also the employers that hire them. Stressed out employees are more likely to get sick and be less productive in the workplace. Employers looking to attract and keep next generation talent are taking advantage of FutureFuel.io to help pay down student’s debt.
Women make most of the healthcare decisions for their partners, relatives, children, and themselves. Yet, surprisingly, women don’t have access to the healthcare support they need.
That gap was precisely what inspired Katherine Ryder, a former journalist, and VC investor, to launch Maven—a digital health startup platform designed by women for women, connecting them with healthcare practitioners.
Get access to top healthcare providers anytime you need to, day or night
Balancing family and career, today’s woman has never been busier. Thanks to Maven, women have instant digital access to a wide range of vetted healthcare professionals. With no more than a swipe of a finger, you can video chat or direct message physical therapists, nutritionists, OB-GYNs, pediatricians, mental health specialists, prenatal experts, career coaches, and so much more.
