Instagram has over 200,000,000 million active monthly users. A surprising 13% of all internet users have an Instagram account.

So the question any internet marketing agency has to ask.

Is Instagram good for business?

Ok, so let’s start with SEO (Search Engine Optimization), some social platforms can improve your SEO. Google+, Facebook and Twitter all contribute to a social share signal Google uses to determine a popular page or website.

Sadly Instagram has zero SEO impact. Google search engine spiders can’t crawl Instagram; that means Instagram photos and videos are not visible in search results.

So your Instagram account is unlikely to improve your websites ranking on Google. How about social media referral traffic?

Facebook and Twitter have a pretty good click-through-rate (CTR) as it’s fairly easy and obvious for owners to post links to relevant blog posts, news articles and media. Instagram notoriously has a very low CTR.

Having a well-balanced Instagram account with some branded images and some fun images, can help drive your reach and engage with your customer base.

How Do I Get More Instagram Followers For My Business?

Assuming you have an Instagram account it’s time to utilize some key hashtags to broaden your audience.

No, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been using my Instagram account for pretty much just personal photo sharing. Occasionally I’ve used the option to post an office/work based photo from Instagram to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Four Square.

So while Instagram may not be as powerful as Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus, it’s worth spending a short amount of time building the right audience for your brand.
